MASS TORT LIEN RESOLUTION
Paraquat Lien Resolution
The herbicide Paraquat has been widely used in the United States since 1964, despite being banned by other governments such as the European Union and China. While Paraquat does not contain glyphosate (the key ingredient in Roundup), it is very toxic when ingested and may cause a variety of serious health problems. Paraquat is used in agricultural settings, in grounds maintenance at large facilities, and in golf course maintenance. In the U.S., the herbicide can be used only by licensed users, who must be trained and certified in its use.
Persons affected most significantly by Paraquat are those who inhaled the chemicals during or just after application, and those who mixed the chemicals. Potential plaintiffs include farmers and farmworkers, ranchers, aerial applicators, landscapers, groundskeepers, and maintenance workers. The most likely healthcare liens for this mass tort will be claimed by Medicare, Medicaid, private health insurance, and military healthcare payors.
